Foundation Semester CourseBioMed-Kolleg

What does the course offer?

Medical and biological degree courses at Heidelberg University and many other German universities only start in the winter semester. This course offers you the opportunity to use the summer semester specifically to prepare for your studies.

Who can take part?

You can apply for the foundation semester course for medical and biological degree programmes if you meet the following requirements:

  1. You have a direct university entrance qualification for the intended degree programme at Heidelberg University.
    You can use the anabin online service (German language only) to check whether you may be eligible/required to attend a Studienkolleg: Click “Schulabschlüsse mit Hochschulzugang” → “Suchen” → select the country of your diploma/certificate → select your diploma/certificate.
  2. You have a DSH certificate of at least level DSH-2 or an equivalent certificate.

Note if you would like to study medicine, dentistry or pharmacy at Heidelberg University:

As part of the selection procedure for study places for non-EU/EEA nationals with a foreign university entrance qualification
foreign university entrance qualification, proof of DSH-3 level or an equivalent certificate is required.
This requirement only applies to the application for the degree course, not for the preparatory semester.

What do I learn?

In this course

  • you can refresh and expand your subject-specific and technical language skills in the fields of biology, chemistry and physics, including the necessary mathematics
  • learn important methodological skills for your studies - e.g. how to prepare presentations in a goal-oriented manner and present them clearly with the help of modern media
  • you will carry out and record experiments from the chemistry, biochemistry and physics practical course (successfully completed and recorded physics experiments will be credited by Heidelberg University towards your degree course).

You have 20 lessons (45 minutes) per week:

  • 6 hours of biology
  • 6 hours of chemistry
  • 6 hours of physics
  • 2 hours Key skills for studying

When and where do the lessons take place?

The BioMed-Kolleg usually takes place four weeks in September before the start of the winter semester.

First day of classes: Mon, 15 April 2024, 08:00 am
Last day of classes: Mon, 17 July, 2024

Lesson times

Monday to Friday, between 08:00 am and 03:15 pm

How much is the course fee?

These costs are incurred:

  • Course fee: € 505.00
  • University fees

Successful applicants will receive detailed information on payment modalities with our letter of acceptance.

How do I apply?

You can apply from November 15 to January 15 (deadline for receipt of applications) for the next summer semester.
